My daughter and I discovered this turquoise-and-black butterfly while flipping through a Butterflies of the World book we borrowed from the library. Its luminous wings immediately caught our attention—so vibrant they seemed almost unreal. I chose to paint it as a reminder of how much wonder can be found in the unfamiliar, and how curiosity often leads us somewhere beautiful.
Simomis croesus. Native to Southeast Asia, this striking butterfly is known for its iridescent turquoise wings edged in deep black.
